Word Art Wednesday #17

Happy Wednesday!!!!  It's time for our weekly word art!  Today's word is from Psalm 9:1-2...

Praise...it's something we must do all the time.  It's so easy to praise God when He brings us out of a difficult situation,  heals us from an illness, provides an extraordinary blessing.  But in our day to day life, when things are just going along smoothly, nothing out of the ordinary, we sometimes take God for granted and "forget" to praise Him.  And even worse, when we're in the midst of a trial or tribulation, we might suffer from a temporary "brain freeze" and dare to think, if only for a split second, that we don't have anything to praise God for.  Kind of hard to think about isn't it?  But it does happen, even to the best of us.  For times like these,  I'd like to share with you the words from one of my favorite songs, "For Every Mountain" sung by the Kurt Carr Singers.  You can find it on YouTube if you'd like to give it a listen.

I've got so much to thank God for,
so many wonderful blessings,
and so many open doors,
a brand new mercy along with each new day;
that's why I praise you, and for this I give You praise.

For waking me up this morning, (that's why I praise You),
for starting me on my way, (that's why I praise You),
for letting me see the sunshine, (that's why I praise You),
of a brand new day.
A brand new mercy, along with each new day;
that's why I praise You, for this I give You praise.

You're Jehovah Jireh (that's why I praise You),
You've been my provider (that's why I praise You),
so many times You met my needs, so many times You rescued me.
I wanna thank you for the blessings You give to me each day;
that's why I praise You, for this I give You praise.

For every mountain You've brought me over.
For every trial You've seen me through.
For every blessing, hallelujah;
for this I give You praise.

For today's layout,  I used a photo of one of my church's praise dance groups, Women of Grace.  This particular group is composed of "seasoned" ladies. They don't let their age hinder them when they minister to us through dance. Everyone in the room can feel their love for the Lord and their dancing is nothing but praise to Him.

Word Art Wednesday #16

Hi!!  It's Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent and time for some new word art!  Today's art is from Psalm 46:10....

Be still.....in this day and age, sometimes that's so hard to do.  We seem to always be so busy, rushing here and there, always doing something.  This past weekend I was feeling under the weather.  But instead of pushing through like I always try to do, I decided to be still.  A totally foreign concept to me, but I did it.  I wrapped up in my favorite afghan, sat in my comfy chair, put my feet up, and did NOTHING.  At first I felt a little guilty, after all there were so many things that needed to be done, but I tried to ignore that feeling.  And I just sat... and thought... and reflected on the goodness of God and all that he's done for me and how he's continued to bless me over and over again, not because of what I've done, but because of who I am.  I am his daughter, a child of the most high God.  And you know what?  At the end of the day, the stuff was still undone,  physically I still wasn't 100%, but I felt really good.

Be still and know that I am God.

For today's layout I used a photo I took of the sunrise at our women's retreat last year.

Word Art Wednesday #15

Hi!!  It's Word Art Wednesday!!  Today's word art comes from Psalm 119...

The word of God is a lamp that shines in a dark world.  As we walk through this world, the Word illuminates our path and helps us navigate through the darkness. It is a shining light to direct us in the way in which we should go. It shows us how to follow the right and avoid the wrong way. The Word provides guidance in all aspects of our daily lives. There is nothing new under the sun, it is all covered in the Word. As one of my pastors loves to say, "It's in there!"  Check it out for yourself.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!  Today is the day that the world sets aside to celebrate love.  Wouldn't it be great if we lived and loved every day like we do on Valentine's Day.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.                                      1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Word Art Wednesday #14

It's Word Art Wednesday!! Today's word art comes from the Book of Job:

This verse from Job is so powerful!  God allowed Satan to test Job with things so awful that it’s hard to imagine living through them.   And even though Job was going through unthinkable trials and tribulations, through it all he knew that no matter the outcome, HIS  REDEEMER LIVES and one day he would see him face to face.
This week I choose to use a photo of my husband for my layout because he is a man of great faith.  He is an “upright man who fears God and shuns evil”.   And like Job, he knows that his Redeemer lives!!!

Supplies:
DCWV Patterned Paper
American Crafts Ribbon
Crossed Paths Charm
Making Memories Ribbon Slide
Twine, Button
Tim Holtz Distress Ink

ODBD February Scrapbook Challenge

Hi Everyone!!!  It's time for the February Our Daily Bread Designs Scrapbook Challenge.  We've had a little change to our challenge posting rotation.  I'll now be posting the challenge and my sample layout  here on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

For February we're having a recipe challenge.  Your challenge is to choose 3 ingredients from the recipe and use them on any size scrapbook page along with ODBD stamps. You may use more ingredients but you must use at least 3 from this recipe. Have fun mixing it up!

Recipe List:
Bling
Buttons
Flowers
Chipboard
Ribbon/Twine/String
Sewing (hand or machine)

For my layout I used the ODBD The Mighty Sea stamp set.  My ingredients from the recipe are bling, buttons, ribbon, twine and hand sewing.  The photos are of my son during a summer vacation to Myrtle Beach in July 2006.

I stamped the Mighty Sea image on cardstock using Memento ink, colored it with Pebbles Shimmer chalks and matted it with green patterned paper.  I stamped the scripture and sentiment stamps on shipping tags and colored them with distress and chalk inks.  I think the stamped images make great accents for any scrapbook page.  If you're never incorporated stamping on your scrapbook pages  you should give it a try.

Supplies:
K & Co. Patterned paper
Bazzill cardstock
ODBD The Mighty Sea Stamps
Basic Grey Gems
K & Co. Paper Ribbon
Buttons, Tags, Twine, Thread
Pebbles Chalks
Memento, Tim Holtz Distress, Colorbox Chalk and VersaFine Inks

To see all the challenge guidelines and how you can win a $15 gift certificate to the Our Daily Bread Designs store click here.  Also be sure to check out Patter Cross' inspiration for this challenge in her blog post  here.  The challenge runs through  Wednesday February 29th, 6:00 PM EST.

I hope you decide to join in this challenge. I can't wait to see what you create.

February Gems of Inspiration

Happy Friday!!!  It's time for the February Gems of Inspiration scrapbook challenge on the Our Daily Bread Designs Forum.   The other day, when I changed my calendar to February, I noticed something that I only see once every 4 years.  This year is a leap year!!  There are 29 days this month!  As I started thinking about leap years and taking a leap, my thoughts turned to leaps of faith.  I immediately thought about Jesus and Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14.

Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.  When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I.  Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”    “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”  And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.  Matt 14:25-32

Have you considered taking a leap of faith lately?  When you step out on faith, and stay the course, God’s got your back!

This month's challenge is all about taking a leap...a leap into creativity!  Create a layout using something that is totally new to you.  It could be trying a new technique or using a new tool.  Using a paper or embellishment that you just bought or one that’s been sitting unloved in your stash for a while.  Step out of your comfort zone and try something new!

My something new on my layout are the handmade burlap flowers.  I used some white burlap and die cut the flowers with my Big Shot.  I then sprayed the flowers with glimmer mist to give them some color.  As I was moving the flowers I noticed that the edges were unraveling and they weren’t looking very flowerlike anymore. As I had never die cut burlap before, it hadn’t occurred to me that the edges would fray.  Determined to make this work, I went to my local craft store and described my problem to the clerk in the sewing department. She recommended a product called Fray Check.  I die cut and misted some more burlap flowers, applied the fray check to the edges and they turned out great.

Supplies:
K & Co. Patterned Paper, Stickers & Tag
Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers Die
Die Versions Tickled Pink Font Die
Versafine and CTMH Inks
Burlap

I hope you get a chance to play along this month.  I’d love to see the results of your leap of creativity.

Word Art Wednesday #13

It's Word Art Wednesday!!!!  Today's word art comes from the book of Nehemiah...

So just what is this joy???  The Holman Bible dictionary defines joy as the happy state that results from knowing and serving God.  Joy is the fruit of a right relation with God. It is not something people can create by their own efforts.  God Himself knows joy, and He wants His people to know joy. Joy in the Lord enables people to enjoy all that God has given.

This past summer,  I was the craft director at my church's vacation bible school.  Talk about joy!! Being in a room full of children worshiping and praising God, having a fun time in the Lord, you couldn't help but be filled with joy!!!

Supplies:
Recollections Patterned Paper
EK Success Sticker
Divine Twine
Cardstock, Brads, Button, Ink

Is your life filled with joy??  If not, think about all the Lord has done and is doing for you.  Then let the joy of the Lord flow through you.
