Our Christmas morning begins with prayer and a reading from the Book of Luke. It's the first thing we do... before any stockings are checked or any gifts are opened. It's a tradition that we started when the kids were very young. Now that they are older, they do the reading. I believe that starting the day this way keeps the real meaning of Christmas at the forefront of our minds. It's not about what is or isn't under the tree, it's about the greatest gift of all...Jesus!!
The challenge sponsor for this week is Daydream Designs Digital Stamps. If you're not familiar with their designs, stop by and check them out. They have some wonderful digi images. I used 2 of the images from their Little Bits of Christmas collection on my layout today. I love that this collection is available in color, perfect for scrapbookers that aren't into hand coloring images.
Supplies:
Paper Studio Patterned Paper
Daydream Designs Digi Stamps
Cardstock
Baker's Twine, Button

A Sketch With a Twist
I really need to work on my summer vacation album but needed some motivation. I decided to check out the Sketch With a Twist Challenge at MFPSpeedy TV and this week's sketch was a CAS one, great for a quick layout.
Here's the basic sketch...
And the twist is to include a food or drink item.
I used some dinner photos from our vacation for the sketch challenge...
Of course, I took more than 3 photos of our dinner in this 50's inspired restautant :), so I had to add another page to my layout for the album. Here's the 2 page spread...
Supplies:
American Crafts Patterned Paper
Mr Huey's Mists
American Traditionals Sticker
American Crafts Journaling Sticker
Our Daily Bread Designs Stamp
Jenni Bowlin Alphabet Stickers
K&Co. Gems
Thanks for stopping by. Blessings!

Word Art Wednesday #58
Hello everyone! We are so blessed here at Word Art Wednesday!!! We normally have one prize sponsor for our challenges (except for the first Wednesday of the month), but this week we have two! In addition to Detailed 4 You, which is today's regular sponsor, we have a second sponsor!! Cynthia Millan of Stampin' Up has offered one blessed winner TWO stamp sets (Come to Bethlehem and Crosses of Hope).
Now, on to this week's word art. Today's word comes from the book of Philippians...
Today's scripture is often taken out of context. True, God will provide all our needs, but it's not like he's waving around a blank check providing for the needs of any and everyone that asks. God expects some things from us in order to receive His provision. We must believe and have faith. One way to show our faith is through giving to others. We we give away a portion of what we have, we express faith that we will still have enough. When we give, we show God that we take Him at his word... that he will provide. So now, during this season of giving, why not step out on faith and give a little extra to someone in need. Giving doesn't always have to be something material...you can give of your time and your talents as well. Offer your neighbor that doesn't have a car a ride to the mall to do some Christmas shopping, sing carols at the senior center and spread some Christmas joy, donate some hats and gloves to your local homeless shelter...believe, God will provide, and you will be blessed.
For my layout I used an old photo of a friend of my maternal grandmother. I was so excited to receive my grandmother's photo album when my Mom passed away. These old pictures provided me a window into my mom's childhood. My mother grew up in Mississippi in the 1930's. While they lacked lots of material things, they didn't lack faith in God. I can't begin to imagine what it was like for them living in that place, at that time, but I do know that they believed and fully relied on God and He provided all their needs.
Supplies:
Sei Patterned Paper
Spellbinders Die
Gems, Ribbon, Lace
Colorbox Chalk Ink

Word Art Wednesday #57
Wow, it's December already! The year is almost over, time seems to fly these days. It's the first Wednesday of December so it's Word Art Wednesday Double Sponsor Day. That means you have two chances to win a prize from our awesome sponsors.
Today's word art comes from the Book of Deuteronomy...
Isn't God's word always right on time?! During the Christmas season we sometimes get caught up in the spirit of giving. We want to give our loved ones the perfect gift, the desires of their heart. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but we must be very mindful of not spending beyond our means. God tells us to bless others, but He also tells us to give as we are able, according to what He has blessed us with. And that's not just material blessings, it's spiritual things as well. A heartfelt smile, a kind word, a prayer, can go a long way in brightening someone's day. God has blessed each one of us with special talents, why not use them to bless others. The best gifts are often not the most expensive or the prettiest, but the ones that come from the heart.
The photo on my layout today was taken on Christmas Day 2010. Tim had just opened his gift from TJ ... a bright blue mug that said "World's Greatest Dad". Was this at the top of Tim's wish list...probably not. But because it reflected how TJ felt, he had obtained it himself, and it was given in love, it was the greatest gift. It was priceless!
Supplies:
My Minds Eye Patterned Paper
Bazzill & Autumn Leaves Cardstock
Making Memories Button
Queen & Co. Gems
May Arts Ribbon (available at Really Reasonable Ribbon)
