February Gems of Inspiration

Happy Friday!!!  It's time for the February Gems of Inspiration scrapbook challenge on the Our Daily Bread Designs Forum.   The other day, when I changed my calendar to February, I noticed something that I only see once every 4 years.  This year is a leap year!!  There are 29 days this month!  As I started thinking about leap years and taking a leap, my thoughts turned to leaps of faith.  I immediately thought about Jesus and Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14.

Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.  When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I.  Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”    “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”  And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.  Matt 14:25-32

Have you considered taking a leap of faith lately?  When you step out on faith, and stay the course, God’s got your back!

This month's challenge is all about taking a leap...a leap into creativity!  Create a layout using something that is totally new to you.  It could be trying a new technique or using a new tool.  Using a paper or embellishment that you just bought or one that’s been sitting unloved in your stash for a while.  Step out of your comfort zone and try something new!

My something new on my layout are the handmade burlap flowers.  I used some white burlap and die cut the flowers with my Big Shot.  I then sprayed the flowers with glimmer mist to give them some color.  As I was moving the flowers I noticed that the edges were unraveling and they weren’t looking very flowerlike anymore. As I had never die cut burlap before, it hadn’t occurred to me that the edges would fray.  Determined to make this work, I went to my local craft store and described my problem to the clerk in the sewing department. She recommended a product called Fray Check.  I die cut and misted some more burlap flowers, applied the fray check to the edges and they turned out great.

Supplies:

I hope you get a chance to play along this month.  I’d love to see the results of your leap of creativity.
